Turkey Apple Pita Pressed Sandwich (And a Reminder That Your Fridge Is Enough)
Hungry after rowing, I made a turkey, apple, and Muenster pressed pita sandwich from what I had in the fridge. Simple, satisfying—and a good reminder that eating at home often hits the spot.
I came home from rowing this morning and took a nice walk around the pond near my house. By the time I got back, I was hungry. I opened the fridge — and of course, nothing jumped out at me. But I was in the mood for a sandwich.
Luckily, my wife keeps Boar’s Head maple honey turkey stocked for the kids' school lunches, and I had some leftover pita bread from the pita chips I made for this Greek Power Salad with Grilled Chicken and Farro.
So I threw together a pressed pita sandwich with turkey, Muenster, spinach, apple slices, and honey mustard.
Nothing fancy. Just what I had.
And here’s the thing:
What’s in your fridge is usually enough.
You don’t need to eat out. You don’t need to spend more money. You don’t need to feel bloated from some random meal that didn’t even hit the spot.
Get a little creative. Feed yourself something good.
Most days, what’s already in your fridge is enough.
And learning to be okay with that? That’s a habit worth building.
Sometimes the smallest changes make the biggest difference. For me, writing down a simple to-do list snapped me out of a rut and boosted my productivity overnight.
Adult life is full of maintenance—health, budgets, routines—that can feel monotonous. But with intention, maintenance becomes ritual, bringing joy, presence, and meaning to the everyday.
